One Spot #2: Angar's Magic Shoppe
Wandering down a little-used side street you discover a store window crowded with tall stacks of books. A quick glance reveals books on nearly any mundane topic you can think of. Above the stacks in faded paint you can read the words “Angar’s Magic Shoppe – Tomes and Trinkets” on the window. And though you might wonder where the magic might be, you open the door to see what’s inside. You hear the ding of a small bell announcing your arrival.
Once inside, the musty smell of old paper assaults your nose as a small man on a high stool greets you from behind the counter. The man introduces himself as Angar, the shop owner, and erupts with enthusiasm if you show the slightest interest in something for sale. Behind him lie crowded shelves filled top to bottom with books of every conceivable size and type along with other items such as children’s toys, fine jewelry, and boxes made of metal, bone, and leather. Occasionally you catch a glimpse of the store’s calico cat stalking some invisible creature between, on, or under the shelves…
No matter what system you use for your games, being a game master is a perilous pastime. As soon as the players arrive with their PCs at the ready, your well-formulated plans can go off-the-rails at a moment’s notice.
