Announcing Mazes & Perils Deluxe!

When role-playing games got their start in the 1970s, heroes were made of stronger stuff than today or they tended to suffer horrible deaths in the face of less forgiving dungeons. That was just the way of things and I remember rolling up new characters frequently in the early 1980s when my own exposure to RPGs began.

Now we have the Old School Renaissance (OSR) bringing new life to that older approach to adventuring. In recent years we’ve seen games such as Dungeon Crawl Classics, Swords & Wizardry, and Torchbearer (and many others) hit the market, riding the resurgence of interest in the RPG community. And in each case, it’s not the kinder, gentler rules systems we’ve grown accustomed to over the years. In these systems, you have to play smart and even then sometimes it’s not enough!

Mazes & Perils, originally released in 2012, gained critical acclaim and won a Gold Ennie Award in 2013 for “Best Free RPG” – quickly securing its own place in the OSR. Inspired by the 1977 Holmes version of the world’s most popular fantasy role-playing game, M&P offers a throwback experience complete with Fighting Men, Magic-Users, Clerics, and Thieves fighting against classic monsters from myth, legend, and imagination.

Vince Florio, one of M&P’s original creators, reached out over a year ago and we began work on a new version of the book… Now, just in time for Vince’s appearance at the North Texas RPG Convention, it’s time to unveil Mazes & Perils Deluxe!

What all do you get in the deluxe version?

  • New Class – The Enchanter – along with 20+ new spells in his arsenal
  • New Class – The Shaman – along with nearly 20 new spells of his own
  • Rules for Variable Damage for Weapons and Variable Hit Dice
  • New layout, more art, and plenty of editing
  • 75 pages of gaming goodness

We think it looks great! It will initially be available as a PDF through DriveThruRPG and RPGNow and soon thereafter will be available as a softcover book. Vince has an early proof with him at NTRPGCon, so drop by and check it out if you get a chance!

For 48 hours, starting at Noon CST on Friday June 3, 2016 and ending on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Noon CST, the book will be available for $1 and then return to $7.99.

We hope you have a great time playing with this old school blast from the past! This is only the beginning, so keep checking back for news on more new classes, adventures, and more for M&P after we release it into the wild!
